A science-fiction action thriller set aboard a luxury spaceship on course from Earth to Moon.

Roger and Paula Winston seem to be two happily married space tourists on a romantic trip of a lifetime. However, when they are drawn into what appears to be a random act of violence, Roger and Paula reveal themselves as figures in an elaborate con game to sell pharmaceutical secrets to a dirty government official. In this riveting pulse-pounding story things are never what they seem, and anyone could be in on the con.

Think Philip K. Dick blended with Michael Crichton.

In Chromosome 4, Roger and Paula Winston are a married couple in the future who have just boarded a cruise ship headed to a vacation resort. Unlike the present day, however, this Disney Cruise isn't set on water, but is a space cruise to the Moon. While aboard, the couple are approached by a shady agent looking to make a deal to acquire Paula's genetic research on the chromosome related to aging -- research that could lead to the ability to slow the aging process adding decades to human life. The couple ultimately realize that their lives are in jeopardy because of the research and must think fast to escape a dicey situation.

Overall, the story is a quick read and not bad. That said, the sci-fi elements are primarily the futuristic setting as the majority of the story's plot involves evading these "agents" who are after the research. Also, the story is a bit confusing at times in terms of the plot and much is left out that would make for a more satisfying read. For example, Roger and Paula are able to find some helpful associates along the way, but it's unclear how this occurs. Why are these people helping them? What is their motivation? Did they know them before? Also, the general setting of the book is a bit odd -- at times it seems unclear if Roger and Paula are truly in trouble or if they are simply running a con job on these agents. Also, it's unclear at what point the tables begin to turn in their favor (or if they were ever not in their favor). Finally, there are odd elements of the story that are not explained and it's unclear if those elements are important in the story or not. As an example, near the end of the story an associate of Roger and Paula is oddly dressed in a Mickey Mouse costume. This initially seems important, but later (due to the resolution) evidently is not -- and regardless, the point of the character dressing in the costume is never addressed or explained. Addressing many of these oddities would have resulted in a more satisfying read overall.

Chromosome 4 a Science Fiction Science Fiction Thriller eBook Stacey Cochran Reviews

My heart was beating in my throat. I felt as if I was a passenger on the spaceship and an onlooker at the same time. A fast paced read, do expect an adrenaline rush.
A wonderful afternoon escape into the future, this story starts out fast and keeps you enthralled until the very end! A great read to get you thinking about what the future could hold. Wonderfully written and a great plot!
This grabs you right at the start and never lets go. A non-stop adventure with overtones of David Mamet's "House of Games." You never really know who's doing what to who. Oh, yeah...I recommend this one.
Love science fiction
Great story with lots of action in a space casino. The ending didn't make sense at all, at least to me. Still scratching my head.
The prospect of a drug adding many more years to the average life expectancy would without doubt bring the creator of such a drug into constant danger. Every drug company would be eager to get a piece of that money making pie, because every living person would want to take that drug. With such a storyline you would expect an exciting book. Chromosome 4 does not disappoint. It is a fast paced story set in a future casino. Well written, an exciting read start to finish.
Chromosome 4 refers to a part of a gene that regulates aging, and the wife of the protagonist, Roger Winston, is a researcher with access to new research that can extend human life. The government wants it. A rival company wants it. Thus Roger and Paula Winston are targets.

Inexplicably, the Winston's decide to embark on a cruise on a spaceship. When I peace together this story, I was scratching my head. If your life is in danger, why would you go on a cruise? But not everything is as it seems.

Our protagonist has an exit strategy to sell the research and make a boatload of money. The only question is who else is in on the con?

The author puts together a nice story, and eventually reveals the players involved. My only concern with this novella is the lack of background information on the characters, in particular Roger Winston.
